For my first blog post as a Technology Integration Specialist, I thought it would be helpful to introduce myself and provide some background information. This will help everyone get to know who I am: where I have been, and where I hope to be going as I begin this new chapter of my professional life! To get started, I am going to share a letter I wrote to family, friends, and colleagues when I first announced that I would be leaving the classroom to become a Technology Integration Specialist at ESU 4.
I love music! Always have, and always will. It has been my passion and my life's work. As a teacher, I have experienced the dynamic flow of influencing young lives, while being inspired and influenced by the students I teach. It has helped shape who I am. My love for music began at a young age when my grandpa took me to my first Nebraska football game. I was so fascinated with the Cornhusker Marching Band that I began to play "marching band" in my back yard. I had a kazoo, a Smurfs snare drum with a shoulder carrier, and a home made red cape with a white "N" on the back.
As I grew up, and throughout my teaching career, I have realized that I have a gift for understanding technology and being able to help others utilize it. I saw how it made my job as a teacher easier, as it helped engage students and made communication much more efficient. I wanted to share this with other teachers, and I realized that I had a gift for being able to do that as well. That is why I chose to complete a Master's Degree in Education (Instructional Technology) at UNK. It helped me become a better teacher and a better technology leader among my staff at school, and it helped me realize the goal of one day moving into a technology integration position in education.
With that, I am delighted to begin serving as the Technology Integration Specialist at ESU 4. It is truly the right opportunity for me professionally, and the right situation for my family. It allows us to continue living in Auburn, which is a community we have grown to love and are proud to call our home. It allows my wife, Sarah, to continue serving as a Science Teacher in Auburn Public Schools,. It allows our son Joey, to continue attending Little Learner's Pre-School in Auburn, and then attend Auburn Public Schools.
I am truly thankful for the 13 years I have served as a Band Director! To all of my former students, thank you for being the amazing people that you are. You have impacted me more than you will ever know! Here's to new beginnings!
