It is hard to believe that the holiday season is here, which also means that the school year is almost halfway complete. This is a festive time of the year, but it can also be stressful for teachers and students. Winter sports are getting into full swing, holiday concerts are happening, and there is the push to finish classroom content before the semester ends. This holiday season, I encourage you to be mindful about technology and take extra time to spend and enjoy with your family. Use technology to streamline and organize your busy life by using tools like Google Calendar and Google Keep, and meet new people by participating in the #12DaysofTwitter, but don't let yourself get consumed by screen time.
I would never attempt to give advice that I wouldn't also give try to follow, and I am by no means perfect at this. With how much technology is a part of my life because of my role as a Technology Integration Specialist, I have tried to be intentional about putting my phone away with I get home from work so that I can spend time with my wife, son, and our dogs. Putting my phone away has helped me to be more in the moment with them, whether we are playing outside, going for a walk, or just hanging out. I have especially tried to not have my phone at the dinner table so that we can have meaningful conversations where we are present with one another.
The holidays are a busy, fun, and stressful time and it is easy to get consumed by the stress. By being mindful about your technology usage and taking time to spend and enjoy with family, hopefully you can feel less frazzled this holiday season and enjoy the festivities! Happy holidays, everyone!
